View Full Version : My test drive of the 08 G37 Coupe 6MT

On Firday while getting my boy Gregg to hook my car up on some services while at Infiniti of Gwinnett. I noticed that they had a 6mt G37 Coupe. So you know I just had to take it out for a spin. Got the keys and off I went humming one of my favorite cartoon theme songs (speed racer). I stopped by the Subaru dealer down the street to holla at my boys over there. Pulled out from Subaru to stop over Ricks (Rugs) so that he may join me on my test drive. Then I looked in the mirror and what did I see, Gwinnetts finest with flashing lights pulling me over. DAMN! I thought to my self. The cop pulls me over and states that I did not have a proper tag. I had a drive-out tag on, but with no date sticker. Which is what dealers display until the car is sold. Anywho, he stated that I better have some to bring a proper tag or he will impound the car. I called the dealer and my buddy Greg brought me a dealer tag while the Officer was writting the ticket. Ultimately, the officer got a change of heart the last minute and decided he was going to issue a warning. COOL! So I proceeded to Ricks and we went out for a spin. This car had Premium, Nav, sport, and the 4wheel Active Steer Package. I liked it alot. I think Rick did as well.

Yeah I have not yet formed an opinion on that color yet. Kevin as far as how it compares to the 335i, both cars have thing that I really like about them. I have to be careful with what I say about the 335i. Because I'm not trying to get cut by Rick or Jeremy.

Stop driving so damn fast and as ugly as that thing is it needs to come with a car cover with peep holes so you see out the windshield when you drive around.

I see :evilgri3: Let me break it down specifically. How did the brake feel? Did it feel a lot better than the Previous Brembo set? How about the throttle response and Rev, are they quick?

sweet color. try not to get arrested now big l, we need you for these exciting test drives.
I like the new amethyst color. It's really cool... Looks kind of dark silver but has some purple tinges when you get the light just right. A friend is getting one...
Stay away from those dirty coppers, man... sheesh... although he let you go, so he's pretty cool...

i saw a few in Mobile the other day, wasn't really impressed, the interior is def an upgrade, but the outside just had something that was bleh to me, def wasn't feeling the chrome wing or the taillights, just not the same as before, seats are a lot nicer looking as well.

I also drove a new g37. I wasn't quite sure what to think.. it's definately much more refined than the 35, a lot smoother as well. As far as looks, I don't think they're the car's forte. It's much more in the vein of an M45. A litttttttle bit too grown up maybe, but sexy none the less. Definately not as eye catching as the G35 coupe was when it first hit dealerships.

Thanks Lawrence for bringing the New G37 6mt over. Like everyone else, I was impressed with the the new upgraded interior. But strangely the drivers side arm rest is about 2" to 3" lower than my G35's was, so I couldn't rest my left elbow on it while holding the steering wheel (Weird). Overall it had a nice tight feel on the road. It drove & handled really nice. The new 6mt gearbox & shifter with a smaller shift knob for "08" was really smooth & effortless. The steering though felt Way Overboosted, almost like my Mom's old Cadillac. This may have been due to the 4wheel Active Steering Package, but I doubt it.
The one thing that stood out the most though was the LACK of POWER! Accelerating through the gears it felt flat & no with no Wow facter. Almost like the emergency brake was on, but it wasn't.
I know when my G35 6mt was new, it felt sluggish until around 3,500 miles after break in, then it really woke up. Maybe that's the case with this G37, or perhaps this was just a slower example of one. In either case I think my Honda Odessey in a straight line would give this one a run for the money...
Overall, I was More Impressed with the Performance of Infiniti's New "07" G35 SEDAN.
I look forward to driving another G37 soon to see if this was just an isolated case.
But as for my impression of this example of the G37 6mt. It has all the refinement my G35 Coupe lacked, but none of the Soul...:sad2:
damn...I expected to hear better things about the 37. I think that by next year it will be better. The prototype year for any car always has some issues...JMO....

Regarding the over-boosted steering fee Rick (rugs). It would be due to the 4 wheel active steer pkg. Unlike the M sport with just rear active steer. The front steering gear ratio does change when you get the 4wheel active steer package, which alloys you to turn the car much quicker with less effort. As far as braking Kevin. I been a long while since I have driven a G coupe with Brembo's, so hard for me to tell how the new Coupe compares in braking.
