View Full Version : What can you do on stock heads, stock cams, greddy twins and a built short block?

560whp in shootout mode on a DynoDynamics... C18 can truly change a beast into an outright monster...
the platform:
- built short block with eagle rods and arias ED pistons
- stock heads and cams
- UTEC
- 550cc injectors
- CJM stage 2 return fuel system
- CJM fuel rails
- Walbro pump
- Greddy twins (original kit, no upgrades)
after much adieu, i decided to try a race fuel map... 484whp (DD STD) was a blast, but of course, i wanted to try more... the result was 560whp and 570tq on DD STD... somehow, my car has become the "guinea pig" for a hybrid build... most not only build the short block, but have cams, valves and/or headwork done during the build... i opted to try and keep things as OEM as possible in the long block... granted this reduces power output, but i think we're getting a good idea of what can truly be done on the VQ without touching the heads in any fashion...
i have plans to have the car dynoed on a DynoJet come the 30th... i'm of the mindset that this will easily be a 600whp car on the DJ...
thanks, again, sharif for satiating my need for speed!

Very nice work Jeremy & Sharif. Those are encouraging numbers to see. I'm also on stock heads and cams and my goal with the new trans is 550whp. Looks doable.

C18 Race fuel, and 18psi of boost pressure at redline, according to the dyno data aquisition system. I would definately expect 600whp+ if tested on a dynojet.

nope! just trying to get the word out that you don't *need* heads/cams to make big power... if you're willing to pay for C18, that is... ;)

you should have went to 75.999 mm Stroke and increased the bore.

i dont think you people realize in order to change the stroke you have to change the crank or do some big timer pricey machining then get custom rods for the smaller rod journal.
and whats the point of lowering the stroke and having a bigger bore?

at 75 he could have a 10k redline. Would also give him higher horse power, with less boost. in exchange for slightly less torque.

I am not where you are getting this information, but its not quite right. :) This was a "basic" FP StageI shortblock. There are other options, but this is the one for THIS customer. :)

81.4mm is the stock stroke. If we destroked we would at minimum, a custom crankshaft, a custom piston with a lower wrist pin location. Second, we would need to overbore the cylinders significantly, which we can't do without sleeving the block. And even after all that, we still would not see anymore power up at the top end, without a massive turbocharger upgrade...not to mention, did you calculate piston speeds and wrist pin loads in order to determine if the engine would rev to 10,000rpm safely without tearing itself apart? And of course, a suitable valve train. I guess, what I am saying, is there is much more involved, with negligable benifts with the turbo systems we are running on this car. :)
Anything is possible with these engines...for sure..but its never as easy as it looks.

I guess there is only 1 way to know if it would rev safely to 10,000....

its all a waste of money. you can get so much more power across the power band for cheaper if you keep it stock stroke and bore. heads and cams and more boost works real well for hundreds of people that are boosted now.
