just noticed the idle rpm when i stop at a red light is at around 150 to 200 rpm and continues there until i hit the gas; obviously i think someting is amiss?! any ideas of what this could be, infiniti said on the phone that it could be the engine needs to be decarbonized??? -A

That seems really low rpm when at idle. I thought our cars idled around 800 (but can't remember exactly). I don't know what decarbonized is.

Has it always idled that low? Or is this just recently?

Bump for someone else with info...

i never really noticed it until now, (i felt slight vibrations on the steering wheel) and the car bogged down when i punched the gas when entering the highway. decarb is what infiniti terms as removing carbon deposits from the engine.

if it bogs down when you give it gas and then seems to pick up when you let off then your fuel pump probably needs replacing or your fuel filter

normal idle is 7-800 rpms. have you added any mods lately?

The bottom line on the tach isn't 0 rpm. Make sure you're reading it properly. I don't think the engine will run at 250 RPM.

I don't think I'd do that though. I'd be inclined to try to fix the problem itself.

If your car runs well enough to drive, I'd guess that your idle is above 250rpm. That is very low. I would think it would stall out at that low an idle speed.

It would be interesting to see what your car is actually idling at though. Maybe you could take a picture of the tach once your G is warmed up and post it here...

You're right. I think his idle at around 550-650, which is where I was previously after added all the breathermods. Engines seems like it want to bog down, but never did. :clue: I took it to Mike (DirtyMechanic) and he raised the idle up. Car's been fine every since.

If you idle is below 500, I think the engine would shut off already. :eek5:

FWIW, cleaning the MAF Sensor in my G raised the idle a bit... you might try that...

It also might help to clean your air filter... or put a new one in.

How many miles on your G?

mine stays between 400 and 350 rpm, warmed up. it doesn't idle rough. I have all my mods listed below on my signature. cold idle starts about 1300rpm

^^ In that pic, your idle is a little over 600 rpm. The large line between 0 and the tach needle is 500 rpm.

I appreciate you guys input...!
It's about the same as the picture above, it does seem to vibrate a bit. I'm at 58k miles, no mods. a friend of mine suggested to change the spark plugs, change the air & fuel filter. another noticeable characteristic is the lack of power when punching the gas at speed of 30-50 mph, the thrust isn't as great; might be a different issue altogether.

Like Sean said, that picture is idling at about 650rpm, which is about right.

your primary suspect would be the air filter and the MAF sensor. I'm sure changing the filter and clean the MAF would really help :)

I think part of the reason I noticed so much difference by cleaning my MAF Sensor is that I use K&N oiled filters. I like the filters, I'm just going to clean my MAF Sensor more regularly now.

I hope it helps you out!
