I am interested in adding a supercharger or twin turbo in the near future. My friend said that you have to rebuild the engine...or the charger every 10,000 miles. Is that true? Seems like such a high price to pay for only 10K miles. Also, which is better performance wise? Im not talking about racing at a track, just pushing :sign09: the car to the limits on the parkways/open roads. Also, which companys SC or TT is optimal in quality and longevity? Thanks.

I like the Vortech SC and the APS TT

as for rebuilding....it depends on who much you push the tuning. many people have kept the boost relatively low and haven't had any issues.

which is better performance wise....that's an opinion...personally I like Turbos over superchargers.

Im not too familiar with all the terms and parts for them. By keeping the boost low, wouldnt you decrease the hp and torque potential? Im not looking to go balls to the wall with the car. Just want more performance on my daily driving. I believe I heard that SC are low end with power...and TT are high end. When I was at the track, the car seems to kick *** in the later gears. So wouldnt I want a SC? What else should be installed so I get optimal output and not damage the engine tranny etc? A different exhaust and headers?

Thats BS about rebuilding the turbo and motor every 10,000 miles. Your friend doesn't know what he's talking about...sorry.

A SC will probably be more user friendly for a daily driver. They typically add about 100-150 hp easily and reliably. Any more power than that and you have to start thinking about putting in stronger parts inside your engine.

Most SC dont like headers unless your willing to do some tuning. With headers you will lose exhaust backpressure and make less most. TT kits come with new exhaust manifolds so headers are not an issue.

The auto trannys don't do AS WELL as the manuals. They do have a valve body upgrade for the autos which will firm up the shifts a bit and allow you to take advantage of the new found power.

Most forced induction kits are fairly complete as far as the supporting mods to make your engine last. Most kits have an oilcooler, software upgrades for your ecu, etc.

For the best reliability I'd go with the Stillen kit....especially if you live in california since Stillen is the only kit that is carb approved for smogging. It doens't make the most power out of any kit, but it can be had with a warranty which will put your mind at ease as far as needing to rebuild your engine every 10,000 miles :colors4:

Well, I Will Let You Know How My Tt Instal And End Results Come Out. I Am Doing The Aps Tt, With The 93 Oct. Program. I Will Pick It Up Over Labor Day Weekend, Cant Wait. I Have Run Against A Vortech Sc And He Pulled Me Hard Being Na. Only Mods As Of Now Are Headers, Exst. Highflow Cats, Pullys, Grounding Kit, Injen Cold Air Intake. Gaind About 52hp. But Need More Air. Forced Induction Is The Only Way To Go.

There would be no reason to have to build the charger, or turbo after 10,000 miles unless you where pushing crazy amounts of boost and same goes for the motor. You can easily make 360-390hp with a vortech set up and a good tune on 8 psi, and have a nice reliable car that is going to hold together. Its when people push these cars to their limits, or don't have them properly tuned when you see issues.
